Abstract Collecting the data on ego-centered social networks is usually difficult task for the respondents due to their complex structure. Interviewer assisted data collection modes are therefore preferable over self-administered. Web surveys, on the other hand with their wide range of possibilities to use sophisticated questionnaire interfaces and time-and-cost effectiveness, can also be a very efficient tool for collecting complex data. However, as within all self-administered survey modes, the influence of the measuring instrument (questionnaire) should be taken into account.
