Abstract This paper reports the results of a study conducted on first year university students who participated in concurrent enrolment courses during their final year of secondary school. Participants were provided the option to respond to a survey by paper or using an on-line survey. This paper discusses the participants' response patterns to the multi-mode options for responding to the survey. The paper describes the similarities and differences in written responses between the participants who responded via paper survey compared to participants who responded using the on-line survey.
