Abstract With the increasing use of the internet, public opinion surveys are rapidly switching from paper- or telephone-based to web-based.1,,23 Several authors have noted lower response rates from web-based surveys than from their paper counterparts3,4, and recent research has focused on factors to increase response rates of internet surveys. Two major components of this problem can be identified: increasing the number of participants in the survey, and increasing the numbers who complete the survey. This report focuses on latter, by considering various design elements that may reduce measurement error and dropout rates.
