Abstract The purpose of this study is to create an on-line version of the "Teacher Beliefs Survey" (TBS) and to automate data compilation to enable future efficiencies and cost savings and reduced errors in data collection. The original TBS was developed by Dr. Sandra Woolley in 1997, which assesses teachers' beliefs related to constructivist and behaviorist theories of learning. Several studies have been done to investigate the validity and the reliability of the instrument. It was the researcher’s intention to examine whether the students who enter our teacher preparation program change their beliefs throughout their programs. Since the project is longitudinal and several administrations of the survey are necessary within each semester, an online survey will be more cost-effective and will ensure error free data collection. In this paper, the previous background of the TBS and its effect on providing the evidence of a teacher preparation program is addressed. The development of the on-line questionnaire and the procedures are also detailed. The cost and effectiveness of the on-line questionnaire vs. the hard copy questionnaire is compared and the hypothesis confirmed. In addition, the benefits and the limitations of the study are discussed. Suggestions for future study are also made.
