Abstract

The general steps in conducting an evaluation using an online survey are the same as in using other methods: planning, data collection, data analysis, reporting, and application. Even though the process of evaluation using Internet-based surveys begins in a familiar manner, the unique requirements of the online methodology become apparent almost immediately in choosing an evaluator, requiring special consideration as one makes his or her way through the planning process. In this article, the authors review the steps in the evaluation planning process, paying particular attention to the challenges and opportunities presented by using online surveys for evaluation. The authors conclude with a discussion of the factors involved in selecting appropriate software for conducting online surveys
