Abstract

Reviews studies that help link the psychology of first impressions to the psychology of long-term relationships by showing how expectancies are sustained or modified through behavioral sequences that are partially determined by initial expectancies. Issues considered include the role of the person perceiver as information processor, bias in information search, social interaction and behavioral confirmation, steps in the interaction sequence, and self-attributions.
