Abstract

esearch manager or organizer software has evolved as a new kind of Internet productivity tool. The research manager addresses some issues of using the Internet as a research tool - namely, organizing research results into easy-to-use hierarchies and presentable documents. Six research managers are reviewed. WebForia targets the research market with Organizer and its companion product, Reporter. Organizer's strengths are in its ease of use. SurfSaver is a browser add-on that stores Web pages from any browser into searchable folders. SurfSaver is for someone who needs basic research management functions. Web Buddy lacks the search power of either Organizer or SurfSaver. Its unique features include the ability to save an entire site. CatchTheWeb's strengths lay in its presentation of Web-based content. Hot Off the Web offers minimal organization and no search capability. It is aimed at the general user. PaperMaster stores documents from any Windows application, faxes, and scanned documents, as well as Web pages.
