Web Survey Bibliography
Elizabeth A Buchanan, author of Readings in Virtual Research - Ethics: Issues and Controversies, is interviewed. Just as researchers have a responsibility and obligation to conduct ethical research in face-to-face setting, this does not change in virtual. The use of Internet-mediated research is growing exponentially. Online surveys have become extremely popular. Also, researchers from other disciplines, for instance English and Women's Studies, are studying communities in virtual environments. Buchanan discusses how people conduct research online, what traditions research methodologies are employed in virtual space, and how privacy/confidentiality is practiced in online research. While this is a new area, Buchanan says one major organization, The Association of Internet Researchers, has developed a document on Internet Research Ethics.
