Abstract This paper provides an overview of the major areas of statistical research at the Research Triangle Institute, with special emphasis on research related to sample surveys. Among the research areas discussed are survey methodology, computer assisted information collection (CASIC), statistical methods for surveys and environmental statistics, and computer software development for data analysis, particularly for complex survey design. The paper concludes with a glimpse of the future of statistical research at the Institute.
