The event is a one day conference on paradata, held at the Royal Statistical Society in London. This conference is free but registration is required as places are limited.

Survey paradata has received increasing attention in recent years. Paradata may be defined as information about the survey data collection process. Typical examples are keystroke files, capturing the navigation through a questionnaire, time stamps, reflecting the length of a question–answer sequence, data from call records or contact attempts, interviewer observations about a sampled household or neighbourhood, and recordings of vocal properties of the interviewer and respondent. Survey practitioners aim to use paradata for the improvement of survey designs and processes, in particular in adaptive and responsive survey designs.

The conference will see a mixture of presentations and contributions from discussants.   

The event is organised as part of an ESRC research grant on 'The Use of Paradata (Field Process Data) in Cross-Sectional and Longitudinal Surveys' (RES-062-23-2997) (grant holders: Gabriele Durrant, Peter Smith and Frauke Kreuter), and is organised jointly with the Social Statistics Section of the Royal Statistical Society.
