Name IASSIST Conference 2016: Embracing the ‘data revolution’
Organized by IASSIST
From 31.05.2016
To 03.06.2016
Description

The theme of this year's conference is Embracing the ‘data revolution’: opportunities and challenges for research. We are in the midst of a ‘data revolution’. The evolving landscape of data, including the growth of digital ‘big data’, open data, and open science, presents opportunities and challenges for social science, digital humanities, and related disciplines. What does this mean for researchers? What impact is there on data infrastructures, technology, standards, best practices, tools, services and training? What are the current research needs and trends?

The Program Committee welcomes proposals for the following formats:

  • Pre-conference workshops >>
  • Panel discussions (3-4 panelists each) >>
Proposals (abstracts of up to 2 pages) for thematic panels to be held during the main conference program can be submitted by 3 to 4 panelists. Not all proposed panels will be accepted. Acceptance will be judged on the merits of the proposal and relevance for the expected audience. Proposals must detail the subject, motivation, and panelists.
  • Paper proposal >>
For the 2016 conference we will continue the Paper format which was started in the recent IASSIST Conference. We will have a paper format in which presenters are required to submit an original research paper in advance of the conference and present and discuss its findings at the conference in the form of session presentation. We will select submissions based on proposals and the authors of accepted proposals are required to submit their final and complete papers by April 1, 2016. All papers will be eligible for publication consideration in an edition of IASSIST Quarterly. In addition, one paper will be selected as best paper with a prize of one free registration for a future IASSIST conference.
  • Individual presentation proposal >>
Typically this format is a 15-20 minute talk. If your individual proposal is accepted, you will be grouped into an appropriate session with similar presentations.
  • BoF (Birds of a Feather) - discussion topics for networking >>
Round table discussions typically take place during lunch and have limited seating. Please indicate how you plan to share the output of your discussion to all of IASSIST when writing your proposal (e.g. IASSIST Quarterly, IASSIST blog, Twitter).

  • Posters >>
Proposals in this category typically display research and/or project information visually on a poster board or as a visual demonstration aided by a computer / device.
  • Pecha Kuchas >>
A pecha kucha is a highly visual and fun presentation that consists of 20 slides shown for 20 seconds each. Presentations in this category are timed and speakers are restricted to under seven minutes. These are not your typical conference presentations. We encourage you to check out www.pechakucha.org for more information, and for an example take a look at Data Science for Social Good.
