EUR Workshop on Online Research Methods - further news

Feb 22 2010

Dear all,

Some of you have been rightly asking for and update on the state of the workshop I have been mentioning (mainly through Air-L) that is being organized at the European University Institute (EUI). I apologize for the delay in this, and hope that those interested will still be able to make the necessary arrangements.

Attached you will find the current proposal. The workshop will probably span 2-3 days, and we are trying to connect it to the programme of two other workshops being organized in the same period, which then could potentially serve as an extension of this one. Those other two workshops go into (1) social network analysis, and (2) survey design more generally. With regard to the 'core programme ', we are currently in the process of contacting potential lecturers for the workshop, and depending on the availability of those people we will settle the definitive date. At this point, it seems most likely that it will take place somewhere between the 19th of April and mid May. As soon as we settle this, I will get back to you all.

With regard to the possibility for external researchers to participate in this workshop, the institute 's guidelines have become more clear. The workshop will be attended by no more than 20-25 people, in order to be able to keep it 's character within the domain of workshops and to promote an interactive atmosphere. Furthermore, since these workshops are considered an official part of the EUI curriculum, we have to give priority to EUI researchers. This means that provided we have enough places we cannot deny access to any EUI researcher, also if this means rejecting external researchers. This also means that the proportion of internal/external researchers should be around 70/30% (not a strict rule, but a general guideline). There are no fees associated with participating in this workshop (but the EUI is not in a position to offer any funding either).

We now have around 13 EUI participants. Concretely, this means that we will have sufficient places for max. 5-7 external researchers. This may also mean that we will have to maintain a waiting list if interest remains high. Please let me know at the following form whether you are still interested, given (1) the time period, (2) the uncertainty of actual participation, and of course (3) the content of the proposal: https://spreadsheets.google.com/viewform

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

  Best regards, Jeroen Moes
