Web Survey Bibliography
When used as a survey medium, the internet offers the opportunity of measuring the time participants need to answer the questions of an on-line questionnaire in a quick, inexpensive and routine way. As cognitive psychology has shown, the speed, in which a question is answered, depends on the cognitive processes which take place in answering the question. It is difficult to make a statement about the quality of questions only on the basis of the time a person needs to answer, though. It is not clear which component of the answering process actually accounts for the cognitive effort. That is why we combine reaction time measurement with open questions about the comprehension of the questions and terms in questionnaires. In our study we have measured the time in a number of surveys. The questionnaires and pre-tests relate to real world applications (website tests and employee surveys). As we will show, questionnaires can be optimized quickly and effectively by the means of time measurement and open questions on questionnaires.
